420 DAO is a platform for coordinating and supporting the development of decentralized economics. The platform is deployed on Avalanche C-Chain and the dApp can interact with the blockchain through MetaMask.
This tutorial helps beginners set up the MetaMask browser add-on in order to use the 420 DAO platform. It covers:
- Installing MetaMask.
- Adding Avalanche C-Chain network to MetaMask.
- Importing 420 DAO tokens to MetaMask.
- Removing deprecated tokens from MetaMask.
Install MetaMask
Installing MetaMask is straightforward. All you need to do is go to the MetaMask website, download, install, and follow its first instructions to set up.
After installing, you’ll see the MetaMask icon on the top right corner of the browser. If you click on the icon, it will take you to the MetaMask utility add-on. You can use Expand view [3] to view MetaMask on a larger screen. We will explain the next steps below within the MetaMask Expand view.
Add Avalanche C-Chain network to MetaMask
Once the MetaMask has been installed, the easiest way to add Avalanche C-Chain is to use the utility from the block explorer website.
Go to https://snowtrace.io/, scroll down to the bottom right, you will see a button with MetaMask icon. Click on it and follow the instructions, it will add the Avalanche C-Chain to your MetaMask.
Once done, click on the MetaMask icon on the top right corner of the browser and check if the Avalanche mainnet is added.
Import 420 DAO tokens to MetaMask
To add any ERC-20 token on MetaMask, you’ll need to have the address of the smart contract that was deployed for this token. Once 420 DAO launches, the addresses for tokens 420 and s420 will be published for you to import.
You can first check the list of imported tokens if it is already available. Open MetaMask, go to the Assets tab and you will see the list of tokens. At the bottom of this view, you have the Import tokens [3] utility. Click on that to start importing the token.
It will open the Import Tokens utility, import the token address in Token Contract Address, then click Add Custom Token. Don’t worry about the bottom 2 boxes Token Symbol and Token Decimal, they will be automatically filled.
Once done, go back to the Assets tab, you will find the newly imported token there.
Remove deprecated tokens from MetaMask
In general, you don’t need to remove the tokens from your Assets list. However, in some cases (for example a token that is still in the test phase, or an app decided to redeploy or upgrade their contracts), it’d be nice to have them not showing in the Assets list. Note that removing the token does not delete how much of the tokens you have possessed as it is recorded permanently on the blockchain. The token just goes “invisible” (i.e. it is not displayed in your Metamask), and you can always add it again later if you want to.
To remove a specific token in the Assets list, first click on it, MetaMask will take you to the token detail window. On the top right of this panel, there is a Hide … button. If you click on this button, the token will be removed from the Assets list.
